Drainage Layer - 1 Gallon Clay Aggregate
Lightweight expanded clay aggregate (LECA) makes an excellent media for a drainage layer or growing plants hydroponically. Being incredibly lightweight, clay aggregate does a fantastic job of retaining moisture while allowing water to drain through it helping to maintain plant root health and stabilizing humidity.
How to use as a drainage layer:
1) First figure out how much clay aggregate you need for your enclosure.
We recommend a minimum of 1 gallon per squarefoot. This will allow you to create around 2 inches of drainage. Use more for a deeper drainage layer.
To figure out your squarefootage take the length(inches) of your enclosure and multiply it by the width(inches) of your enclosure. Then divide this number by 144 to get your squarefootage.
(L x W)÷144=sqft
2) Thoroughly rinse the clay aggregate to remove any dust.
3) Place into the enclosure and cover with your substrate barrier. You're now ready to add your substrate.
